Indian in the Cupboard

The cabinets are in!*
*minus the trim and hardware which will be installed after the countertops go in

Here're some really bad pictures (sorry) of the new beauties in all their glory.

-view up into the kitchen from the foyer (also please notice that i painted the bannister white so which made it look like a million dollars instead of the 45cents from before)

-view from the living room into the kitchen (please disregard the exceptionally sweaty Trevor who had just come home from playing soccer)

-another view into the kitchen from the dining room. It will be brighter once we get our recessed lighting in and we are planning a pendant lamp that will hang above the sink (in front of the support beam)

-view from the corner of the kitchen at the new island. Imagine you are facing the sink and the open spot on the left is where the dishwasher will go

-another view from living room into kitchen. The post you see in the center is a support beam for the ceiling that will be wrapped to match the cabinets, after the countertops go in.

-another view of the island, you can see our in-the-cabinet trash cans directly in front of
the shot

Ooh-la-la.
The countertops are actually scheduled to be ready right after we get back from Florida (a week from Monday) so (fingers crossed) we could have them in the end of that week. Very exciting.
more later.

Good old Baldy

Here are some pics from the recent trip to Bald Head Island with Mom, Kaley and later, Dad.
Mom, Moi et Kaley con queso.

View from our house...

same, at sunset (notice the golf carts which is the only means of transportation allowed on the island--besides biking and walking of course. No skipping or hopping though, don't even think about it.)

Kaley and golf cart on one of the few trails/roads on the island.

Mom and Dad...i love this picture of Dad and I think Becky will too.

another shot of the trail/road

another view from our house...

there's a little taste for you. Good memories. Thanks Mom and Dad.

it's business time...

As part of being "for real" in the painting world (which i continually strive for), I have had some business cards made. There are 4 varieties that feature 4 of my favorite/most popular paintings.

As you can see, they were designed by a very talented and yet mostly undiscovered designer. She is also available for a variety of projects so just keep that in mind. I'll try to post some more of her work up here later on.

For now, see what you think about these beauties.

this is my handle, this is my...

the story...

ok, 2 years ago we went down to the Keys with Trev's parents. They have a time share down there so we've been able to go a couple times (and actually head down there again in 3 weeks).

Anyway, we took their boat down there and most days went out and toured around the various keys. One day it looked like it might rain but we figured we'd go out for a bit before it started.

We'd been out probably under an hour and we saw these crazy storm clouds forming. Then they started swirling around so we stopped the boat to watch. Then...they started forming a funnel. Then they started whipping the water around on the surface of the sea. Then we watched in amazement as a funnel of water formed right before our eyes (we were about 1/2 mile away sitting in the boat watching it).

Apparently when a tornado is over the water it's called a water spout (not nearly as impressive sounding) but very cool to see. We finally convinced the guys that maybe we should enjoy this amazing sight from a bit farther away. So we started heading away from the big, scary, dark cloud when we realized that ANOTHER water spout was forming on the other side of us! Of course we didn't have our cameras with us at the time (actually when we got back we remembered that Trev had his camera phone, but too late at that point). So we scooted on out of there as quick-like as possible and as soon as was safe headed back to the condo.

We looked up the local paper the next day and got these pictures. All of the water spouts are actually on the water, since the keys are so narrow it looks like in some of the pictures they are over the land, but it's just deceiving you.

crazy!

here you can see where there where 2 of them, at one point there were between 3-4 at a time! picture us in the boat in between these two. CRAZY!

2 of them seen here too...

this is a cool shot of one of them forming and going down to the water

alright, well there's the story folks. enjoy!

Rennovation Station: Part 2

Ok, folks here we are with up-do-date pictures.

Seen here: new ceiling (in processes of finishing the drywall), new, raised entryway where Trev got rid of the strip that hung down on the stairs and made tall people duck when going up and down. Also, replaced drywall on the stair wall that fixed the crack that was made by repairing the foundation. You can also see our living room furniture piled up and covered in plastic, living in the foyer.

Seen here: Zoe, chilling in a pile of drywall. The new drywall on the stairs that replaced the cheap plywood-type board that was there (bear in mind these are non-technical and possibly incorrect terms since Trev refuses to blog you will have to make due). Also, the new kitchen drywall that replaced the door and windows, also you can see the support beam that will be at the corner of the L-shaped bar and will be covered in beautiful wood to match the cabinets. Also, you can see our kitchen sub-floor and the coverings over our hardwood in the living room.

Seen here: continued angle of rest of kitchen/dining room and drywall in the dining room. Also, the white column you can barley see on the far right is a new drywalled support beam that also acts as a separator between the living and dining room.

Seen here: a tiny part of the new ceiling in the living room along with the new gap between the walls and ceiling that is a result of taking off 3 layers of drywall on the ceiling and replacing it with 1. sigh...so that is where our new crown molding will be going...along with the dining room and any non-cabinet part of the kitchen. You can also see at the very bottom the tops of some green shrubbery. Those are the plants that live in our built-in flower box below the picture windows. Also, the culprit of the erosion (due to watering and the hose hook up that is located in there) under that wall which means we have to build a new retaining wall by our foundation. And really, who doesn't want to spend $2,500 you will never see? yea...

Seen here: our "kitchen" which is currently set up in what was the guest bedroom.
Important thing to notice is the brown "box" in the bottom left. This is Trev's small fridge from college which is now housing our brita, milk and OJ, which is very convenient considering the rest of the fridge is...

...set up 2 floors below, in the garage. See how pretty it is though!
Ok, ladies and gents. there you have it. More to comes soon, or later, yea, probably later.
