Birthday Weekend: Grandparents/ It hits

Rye's grandparents came in for birthday weekend on Friday (10/22--actual birthday). Things started off great with some snuggles, some reading of the books, and overall merriness.

However, Rye had a fever. Not even a "oh he could be teething" fever. 102.5 fever. :( His fever fluctuated between 100.5 and 104 which prompted much worrying a couple lukewarm baths and much close observation. Let's just say we had to replace the batteries in the thermometer yesterday if that gives you any indication.
We even removed various articles of clothing, mainly from Rye. ;)
Things were not looking good for the birthday extravaganza on Saturday...
However, I must say, if you are going to have a sick child with bizarre fluctuating fevers it is VERY handy having a father-in-law who is also a doctor. Let's just say we made use of that luxury.

Needless to say, things were not going according to plan.

Rye's Birthday: Before

For reasons that will be made clear, this portion of Rye's birthday is dubbed 'before'.

Trev and I wanted to have Rye open his presents from us before (no, that's not the before) his grandparents arrived, and before (nope not that one either) his party. You know, just some family bonding time. So, Thursday afternoon (10/21) we opened his presents from us. These consisted of a pile of books and 4 monster friends I made for him.

his new monster friends...
pouring over Diego with Mommy
investigating the monster books with Dad
I must say, he did an excellent job of seeming interested and even sometimes excited about his presents.

check out the eyebrow...
My sweet one-year old.

So, operation birthday part one was a success!

p.s. Rex, the shirt was supposed to be a surprise for later, but oh well, here it is....we wanted him to have a "Rex" shirt. :)

the week of the worleys

This week Trevor's sister Missy and her family were in town visiting. We have had a lot of fun taking the kids around and showing them "the mountains" (they are from Florida). Here are some pics of the kiddos.

"Mommy said, 'No".

"Mommy said, No, Rye. You can't eat the birdseed."

This prompted this series of faces and inner dialog from Rye as he pulls his handful of birdseed away from his mouth...
Why would you say that to me, don't you know how much I want to do this?
This sure looks yummy...
Maybe I'll just sneak my hand back up to my mouth...

"No Rye. No" (accompanied by the slow, dramatic shaking of the head)

She said it again...why does she not want me to have fun?

Mom is ruining all my fun!
This one thing, just this one thing is all i want.

Poor Rye Pie.

Punkin Patch

On Saturday we gathered the Poseys, Smiths (minus Rich unfortunately) and headed out to the Mayfield Farm Pumpkin Patch for some fall fun. The kids did great and everyone had a great time (a miracle!). Here are some pics from our fun at the farm:

They had this giant bin of corn for the kids to play in. Rye LOVED it! He probably would have stayed in there all day if he could have. We did constantly have to keep him from trying to eat it though.

One of the causalities of playing in corn...
Maddy kept "cleaning" the corn off the sides...
notice anything...uncomfortable...about this picture? heheheheeee

this is the "you are putting a cramp on my fun" face he made when we told him not to eat the corn...

We spent $7 each (for the grownups) and got a hay ride out to the pumkin patch where we got to pick any pumpkin we wanted (see below). Then we got to watch a pig race, play in the corn bins and do the hay jump (basically a trampoline surrounded by and covered with hay).

Believe it or not, this was not staged....

Our little fall baby...

There was also a petting zoo and various other entertaining activities. We had a great time and it was well worth the drive (45 minutesish) and the cost. We are already planning our trip next year.

sleepy

after an hour of fussing in his bed he finally succumbed...albeit reluctantly...

p.s. yes, he's sitting up.
